UK INFORMATION

The DEBT SURVIVAL MANUAL
A new UK guide to keeping your creditors at bay while you have no money coming in

.... and the recession rolls on....

Lost your job? Falling behind with mortgage payments?  Growing debt problems?

You need this information - FAST!

In the wake of the recent banking fiascos, once again there is worldwide 'recession'. Hundreds of thousands of ordinary people are reaping the consequences of the arrogance, greed and stupidity of those who run and regulate the financial world. Many have been left high and dry after borrowing unwisely in the 'boom' years, but much larger numbers just suddenly find themselves unemployed or on reduced incomes, while politicians run around like headless chickens and the 'masters of the universe' who caused all this devastation walk away with millions.

Even after following all the conventional debt advice, increasing numbers of British households are now at the limits of their ability to cope, or have already gone beyond that point. Even for those who are still getting by, it can only take a slight reduction in income or an unexpected bill, to go quickly from financial difficulty, to having a serious debt problem. And if you lose your job in this situation, or experience severe business reversals, the problem can quickly become a crisis. At this point, insolvency, even bankruptcy, with all the humiliation and possible loss of assets involved, can become very real threats.

If you, or anyone you know have found themselves in this situation, a new UK debt management publication may have the answers you need .....

But the sad fact is that it is very unlikely that any of the 'counselors', 'advisors' or 'helplines' provided by the debt advice industry will be able to come up with the real, inside advice and information that you desperately need.

From the desk of Peter Roe

I know - I've been there.

A short time ago, my income dried up as the industry that I worked in more or less ceased to operate. Like most people, I was moderately heavily in debt at that time, with a mortgage, various loans and a few outstanding bills for taxes and so on, but initially I wasn't seriously concerned. After all (I naively thought) I had always paid my taxes on time, and I had been making regular payments to my various creditors (for years, in the case of my mortgage lenders) so I assumed the people concerned would understand my situation and work something out. In any case, many of the amounts I owed for such things as council tax were relatively small, and surely no-one would resort to drastic action over such unimportant sums of money.

I was wrong on both counts, as I quickly found out.

At a time when I was desperately short of money, I was notified of fines, charges and other penalties for defaulting on regular repayments and exceeding my credit limits. I begin to receive telephone calls at unsocial hours from credit companies and debt collectors demanding that I promised there and then to make payments I couldn't possibly afford without my family going hungry. I rapidly learned the real meaning of some of the obscure conditions and convoluted legal language in the documents I had signed at one time or another - all designed by corporate legal experts to put a non-expert at a complete disadvantage, unable to fight effectively without knowing the rules of the game.

Within just a few short weeks, my mortgage company was threatening to 'reposess' my home of ten years and evict me and my family (even though the small mortgage amounted to a small fraction of the market value of the property), the local council sent me a letter printed in red and informing that they intended to take me to court for non-payment of council tax, the Inland Revenue was threatening to seize my assets if I didn't pay them immediately, and various other creditors were joining the stampede to relieve me of everything I had worked for over the years.

I felt as if I was bleeding - in a sea full of hungry sharks. It was a shocking eye-opener to the truth of what lies just under the surface in this 'civilised' country, when money is concerned.

As I later discovered, mine was in no way an exceptional case. In the UK today, there are few crimes more serious than owing money and being unable to repay it. It doesn't matter that your inability to pay is not your fault (or in fact was caused by some of the very people now out to take everything from you), or that it is not permanent. It doesn't matter that anyone who lives with you (my wife and young children in my case) stand to be made homeless, or even that seizing your home and possessions will absolutely ensure that you will never be in a position to repay what you owe. The 'system' will try to crush you with all the humanity and sensitivity of a driverless road roller, despite all the weasel promises made by politicians.

And it will succeed, UNLESS YOU MAKE ALL THE RIGHT MOVES AT THE RIGHT TIMES.

But the good news is that there ARE ways to get through a period of financial crisis unscathed. In my case, when my income dried up, I owed over £15,000 to various creditors, excluding my mortgage which was for about the same amount. It was nearly two years before I had an income again, yet when I finally got back on my feet, none of these creditors had managed to extract any significant repayment nor had they been able to seize any of my assets.

So how did I get through this situation with my assets intact when so many others do not?

The reason was fairly simple - I was lucky enough to have been in the right line of work. As a professional document researcher (I used to work as a freelance technical author) I had the means and the skills to quickly ferret out virtually every bit of relevant information available from public sources, and to locate many less accessible sources of potentially useful information, includingother people who were or who had been in a similar situation.

I spent agreat deal of time on the 'phone (knowing that I couldn't pay the bill!) talking to these others and finding out first hand what could be done. Out of necessity, I very quickly applied what I learned, shifting tactics and using whatever means came to hand to bring the situation under control, and even to turn matters to my advantage. Over the two years I had no work and no income, I had plenty of opportunity to find out exactly what works - and what does not.

It was a painful experience and not one I want to repeat - but I learned a great deal, and I succeeded in my objective - to keep what was mine. But what was clear to me by then was that I was not intended to have the information I had acquired. By this I mean that it is in the interests of various vested interests - the banks and other creditors, legal advisors and the courts, debt recovery businesses and the whole 'debt counseling' industry - that the debtor has no idea about how to go about defending himself or herself successfully. In fact, quite the reverse - the more fearful people who have debt problems are, and the more helpless they can be made to feel, the easier it is to separate them from whatever resources they still own.

In all the time I remained unemployed, I had not found a single book on the library shelves or in the bookshops which contained any genuinely useful ideas, and none of the debt advisors I met could suggest anything more helpful than making myself voluntarily bankrupt (in fact, just about the last thing anyone should do). Clearly there was a glaring need for a source of real, effective and hard-hitting information for those in financial difficulty, and it is this need that has led to the compilation of The Debt Survival Manual - a complete 'guerrilla' guide to personal debt management, written by someone who has 'been there, done that, got the tee-shirt'.

The insider information and action plans contained in The Debt Survival Manual can give you the 'edge' you need to beat the odds stacked against you. The information is not censored in any way - if it is of use, and actually works, it has been included. Sharp practice? unethical? - maybe, but when a faceless corporation is preparing to seize your home (perhaps because of a relatively small amount of arrears) or creditors are threatening to send in the bailiffs, I believe that ANY action (provided it is legal) is justified if it will help to keep a roof over your family's heads and to keep the possessions which you have taken years to acquire and which allow you to live a normal, decent life.

Introducing

Most people in the UK are heavily in debt; around 15 million are over-extended to the point where they owe more than one year's income excluding their mortgage. And mortgage debt itself has reached new record levels as people have borrowed to their limit (and beyond, with 'self certifying' mortgages) in order to find the ridiculous house prices that have become the norm in many parts of the UK (even after the 20-25% reduction of the last year or so). Even with interest rates close to zero (except of course where credit cards and some fixed rate mortgages are concerned) it will only take a bit more bad financial news or a further significant fall in house prices to push huge numbers of ordinary people into technical insolvency.

It is estimated that more than 70,000 homes in the UK will be 'repossessed' by banks and other mortgage lenders in the next year, and that over 200,000 people will be made legally insolvent or even bankrupted by the people or institutions they owe money to. Many more will find themselves on the wrong end of court action and subjected to the attentions of various debt collection agencies or even bailiffs.

The sad fact is that most of these people will find themselves in these bewildering and frightening situations because they did not take the right actions early enough - that is, as soon as they lost their incomes or knew that they were going to do so. If you or someone close to you are already in debt, or you can foresee a time when you may be, then you need the information in the hard hitting new publication: The DEBT SURVIVAL MANUAL.

This is definitely NOT a collection of well-meaning but useless advice of the kind you would get from the high street debt counsellors, but a series of proven, practical tactics and maneuvers designed to defeat your creditors at every turn. The guide has been written by an author who has used these methods himself and can vouch for their effectiveness, with additional contributions from others who have found themselves in similar situations and have also 'beaten the system'.

The guide contains the real insider secrets of dealing with all aspects of being in debt, with the overriding aim of preventing anyone getting their hands on what is yours, simply because you cannot repay the money you owe them - now. We have chosen this means of publication in order to avoid the contraints of 'mainstream' publishing, which would have restricted our ability to provide uncensored information on practical actions you can take to avoid the worst consequences of being unable to repay debt.

If your creditors are already making threats, then the worst thing you can do is to do nothing! It is absolutely essential that you take effective action as early as possible to prevent the situation becoming any worse. If you give in, try to ignore the situation, or take wrong action, then the creditors have won. Regardless of their actual rights under the law, they will be able to do more or less as they please without any regard for your wellbeing or that of your family.

Unless you press all the right buttons, you can expect very little 'human' consideration from institutions such as banks, credit companies and the like. As far as they are concerned, it is just business. If you are in trouble, their primary consideration will simply be to recover of as much money as possible, as quickly as possible. When you are in debt, you quickly learn the meaning of the obscure conditions and convoluted legal language in the documents you signed at one time or another - all designed by corporate legal experts to put you at a total disadvantage if things go wrong.

I know from personal experience that the constant anxiety, loss of sleep and the feelings of guilt, helplessness and frustration which can go with being badly in debt tend to eat away at your ability to deal with the situation effectively. Perhaps the worst part is the uncertainty - never knowing when a creditor will take you to court or when they are bluffing - you can find yourself always waiting for the other side to make a move but having no control over the situation. But you are not as helpless as you may think! - there are almost always ways around the immediate problem - ways to stall for time, ways to drastically reduce the amounts you have to pay, ways to strengthen your negotiating position.

Your creditors know this and would much prefer that you did not have the information which will enable you to weaken or even break their hold over you.

Now for the first time all the latest information, strategies, tactics and techniques necessary for dealing with the problem of personal debt have been brought together in one comprehensive survival package designed to guide you through the legal jungle and give you the best possible chance of getting through your difficulties without losing everything you have worked for. There are no lectures on the morality of debt or the power of positive thought, no silly budgets showing how to save money by living on beans and clothing yourself from charity shops - just pages of information, strategies and methods for winning the fight against your creditors.

The information contained in the DEBT SURVIVAL MANUAL  actually works.

It has been tried and tested the hard way - by people who have themselves been in situations of dire financial difficulty. The strategies described cover not only the 'conventional' responses to the kind of crisis you are likely to encounter if you can't repay your debts, but also some very effective 'unconventional' (but legal!) tactics that have been shown to be effective in keeping creditors, bailiffs, debt collectors and the rest of the debt collection industry off the backs of those who have used them. If the procedures require you to write to creditors or others, sample letters are included for you to copy and use whenever necessary. In short, everything you need is in one comprehensive package.

Here's a small sample of the secrets you'll learn in the DEBT SURVIVAL MANUAL:

  • How you may be able to cut in half the amount you must repay.

  • How to tell when your creditors are bluffing and what they can and cannot do.

  • What you can do to reduce regular payments or even avoid payments altogether (legally!).

  • How to identify the debts you never need to repay.

  • How to get your credit card company to stop charging interest on what you owe them.
  • How a simple document that your local Citizens Advice Bureau will prepare for you free of charge can be used as one of your most effective defences against your creditors.

All these strategies and tactics and more are described in simple, clear, step-by-step detail which will allow you to quickly achieve for yourself results you may not have thought possible. And there's much more.....

  • How to force your creditors to accept a tiny fraction of what you owe them 'in full and final settlement'.

  • How to buy time and obtain concessions from your creditors.

  • How to get rid of County Court Judgements legally and inexpensively (others are charging more than the price of our guide for this information alone!)

  • How you can get the courts to keep your creditors off your back, WITHOUT becoming a bankrupt.

  • What you can do to stop bailiffs seizing your possessions.

  • How to make yourself a very unattractive proposition to debt collectors.

Now in 2009, thanks to excesses of the 'masters of the universe', what happened to me is very likely to happen to thousands of others this year.  If anything, the sharks will close in even faster now, as the State social security system has become harsher and benefits have dwindled, and it has become next to impossible to get any kind of subsidised legal assistance.

So now it is even more important that anyone whose job or business is on the line, or who is already unemployed or has a close relative who is in this position, takes steps to arm themselves with the information that will allow them to defend their homes and property from the ravages of the courts, debt collectors and the 'enforcement industry'.
